God began to guide me down this path very clearly the day I learned of a young mom I knew fighting cancer, in the hospital. I felt discouraged that I couldn’t do more for her. She couldn’t have flowers or candy to cheer her up, and her husband and young son lived far from where she was being treated. My heart ached. And then, as if I clear voice spoke to me, I had this idea of using an MP3 player filled with music and audio books to encourage women in a situation like this. I could do that!
And so this ministry began! Over the ensuing months, I came to realize we could bless more than just the young moms out there fighting for their future. What about the suffering children? No mom can imagine watching their child in pain or physical need. Those children need comforting, as well as the moms who sit by their child’s bed day after day, wishing they had power to do SOMETHING. But power we do have. The power of prayer. The power of faith. The power of hope. Put simply, the power of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
And then for those who are not in the midst of medial crisis but find themselves adrift in a sea of pain from relational or life crisis, we serve you too!
At all times, we must cling to Him. We are His children and He loves us dearly. His promises are ours to claim! Let's release His power in our lives ... in our hearts ... in our minds ... and in our homes!
Why three crowns?
Three to symbolize the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Crowns because we are coheirs to the kingdom of Heaven. We are children of the Living God, and our Heavenly Father bestows on us the inheritance of salvation and well as very real crowns that will some day be placed on our heads when we gather at his feet.
For me personally, the three crowns are also a nod to my earthly family. My maternal grandmother, Ruth Nelson Flink, who we called Mimi, wore a crown charm around her neck. It was a gift from my grandfather representing her family’s Swedish heritage. The three crowns of Sweden are the inspiration for the logo of Crowns of Hope.
Mimi inspired me to become who I am becoming. She loved and comforted me, encouraged me, and filled me with faith in Jesus. So much of what I’m striving to accomplish in this ministry is exactly what she did for me. Now I can do it for others because of her. Thank you, Mimi! I cherish all that you have been to me.
